128 golfers signed up for the 22nd Annual Red Cross Charity Golf Tournament

Close to 130 competitors vying for bragging rights and amazing prizes gathered at the North Sound Golf Club on Friday September 6th in support of the 22nd Annual Red Cross Golf Tournament.

Vice Chair of the Board of the Cayman Islands Red Cross Doug Moffat said that while the afternoon was about fun and friendly competition, the tournament was the main fundraising event for the programs and services Red Cross provides.

“By sponsoring and playing this tournament, you enable us to continue to provide First Aid and CPR training, Disaster Management training, Child Protection and Sexual Abuse education, Volunteer Development and Thrift Shop services to support the people of the Cayman Islands,” Mr. Moffat said.

Deputy Governor of the Cayman Islands, Franz Manderson thanked the Red Cross for being there for the people of the Cayman Islands during Hurricane Ivan in 2004. He noted that the catastrophic impact of hurricane Dorian on the Bahamas, demonstrated how important it is to support international organizations like the Red Cross.

He thanked CIBC FirstCaribbean for leading the way and ensuring that non-governmental organizations (NGOs), like the Red Cross, have the sufficient resources needed to meet their obligations.

The bank’s Managing Director Mark McIntyre said, “Since 2002, CIBC FirstCaribbean has contributed to the various arms of the Red Cross organization including funding and organizing internal clothing drives for the Thrift Shop annually and becoming the first Humanitarian Partner in the Shelter for the Storm campaign. Both serving the most vulnerable populations in our community.”

He added, “Securing the golf tournament as an additional avenue of support is definitely a hole-in-one for CIBC FirstCaribbean and we certainly see this as a potential long term partnership with mutual benefits for many years to come.”

The Cayman Islands Red Cross is accepting monetary contributions and volunteer assistance to support the people of the Bahamas affected by Hurricane Dorian.
