Royal Visit and 54th Agricultural Show

Residents of the Cayman Islands may find there is an air of excitement over the coming days as the Country prepares for a number of auspicious events.

As announced, Their Royal Highnesses, The Earl and Countess of Wessex, are set to arrive on Monday, 20 February for an official visit. They will be met on arrival by His Excellency the Governor Mr Martyn Roper and Hon. Premier Wayne Panton and will receive a royal salute, inspect the Royal Cayman Islands Police Service, and meet key government officials. This is the fifth time His Royal Highness has visited our shores, and the second time accompanied by Her Royal Highness The Countess of Wessex.

The Earl and Countess will spend much of their time on Island supporting various events with their respective patron organisations, the Central Caribbean Marine Institute (CCMI) and 100 Women in Finance. Both organisations are highly respected for the excellent work they do across the Cayman Islands.

As another important aspect of the trip is to focus on youth development and enhancement, the Duke of Edinburgh Award will be presented by the Earl of Wessex to two deserving youth recipients. Furthermore, the Countess will be visiting midterm campers at the YMCA Cayman Islands. His Royal Highness will also receive a Royal salute from the Cayman Islands Cadet Corp honour guard, who will be present at the Coast Guard Headquarters along with the Cayman Islands Regiment.

The Countess will be opening the 54th Agricultural Show on Wednesday, 22 February, where she will experience the cherished Caymanian event. The annual Agricultural Show is expected to draw record numbers following a two-year hiatus. The public is therefore strongly encouraged to utilise the free Park and Ride Service to avoid vehicular traffic entering the grounds.
