There is a vast variety of leaves which carry tremendous health benefits. One that’s my favourite is BAY LEAF. There are many leaves referred to as Bay Leaf. However, the truest is known scientifically as Laurus nobilis which is the nutrient rich variety. It is a small tree native to the Mediterranean. They were once plentiful but climate change has greatly reduced their presence. It’s most frequent use is in Indian dishes as spice. So here are some reasons to add it to your health protocol:
IMPROVES DIGESTION - It stimulates urination as a diuretic which decreases the toxicity of the body and stimulates vomiting when something toxic has been consumed. The compounds found in bay leaves are very effective for settling upset stomachs, irritable bowel syndrome and even reducing the effects of Celiac’s disease. The unique enzymes found in bay leaves are effective in digestion and nutrient intake.
RESPIRATORY CONDITIONS - When the essential oil form the leaves are extracted it can be made into a salve and applied to the chest to alleviate respiratory issues. It’s used abundantly especially during the flu season.
HEART HEALTH - Caffeic acid and rutin are both important organic compounds found in bay leaf. Rutin strengthens the capillary walls in the heart and body extremities, while caffeic acid works to help lower bad cholesterol.
CANCER PREVENTION - The unique combination of antioxidants and organic compounds in bay leaf including phytonutrients, catechins, Linalool, and parthenolide helps to protect the body from free radicals.
REDUCE STRESS AND ANXIETY - Linalool is known to have the ability to lower the level of stress hormones in the body, especially when used in aromatherapy. Bay leaves help you calm down and remain relaxed in your stressed situations.
So, why not give it a try. A few leaves a day work wonders for your health. It makes a very nourishing and refreshing tea. Try it!
