BERMUDA FORCED BACK INTO COVID LOCKDOWN

Faced with a worsening COVID-19 crisis Bermuda was forced back into lockdown this week.

The stay-at-home policy was expected to remain in place initially until Sunday following a further spike in cases.

Bermuda was edging toward 2,000 cases with around 900 cases currently described as active of which more than 30 were hospitalised with six in critical care earlier in the week.

Several of these cases are said to have been local transmission.

Sixteen people have died in Bermuda due to the pandemic.

Premier David Burt has also tested positive and is isolating at home with his family.

He had received his COVID-19 vaccination before his positive test, but it takes some time for the vaccine to become effective.

There is concern that many persons are not adhering to the territory’s COVId-19 protocols and there have been reports of several quarantine breaches as well.
