After battling back a recent wave of COVID-19 cases, Bermuda is again registering a spike in the number of cases.
A government update shows that in the span of three days over the past week 25 new cases were recorded, with 15 of the new cases classified as local transmission with known contact as associated with known cases, an official statement pointed out.
More than half of the persons linked to community transmission are said to be unvaccinated.
Health authorities in Bermuda continue to push ahead with their vaccination campaign.
Minister of Health Kim Wilson is advising that “a person who has been vaccinated can have the coronavirus but show no symptoms or have only mild symptoms of the disease, and that person might pass the virus on to family, friends and colleagues.
She said while research is ongoing, “there is strong evidence to suggest that those who are immunised do have a lower viral load of the coronavirus and are far less likely to be hospitalised or, in the worst case, die from the Covid disease.”
There are currently 71 active COVID-19 cases in Bermuda of which 68 are under public health monitoring, and three hospitalised with one person in intensive care.
