The public is invited to join the Queen Elizabeth II Botanic Park for its first-ever 5K Run/Walk on Sunday 13th June.
The event is a fundraiser set to raise much needed funds which will go toward the continued development of the Park’s Children Garden which is still under construction.
“We anticipate runners and walkers of all ages will come out in support of the new Children’s Garden. As once it is complete, it will be an entertaining and interactive educational facility,” said Botanic Park General Manager John Lawrus.
The Park envisions the new garden will be an integral tool in teaching about conservation, training children to identify Cayman’s endemic plant and animal species, and simply passing on a love of the environment and all that lives in it.
“We also look to this as a welcome new addition to the island’s tourism market,” he added.
The $25 entry fee includes a t-shirt, chip timing and post event refreshments. A prize ceremony will follow the run. Additional parking at the Water Authority Compound on Botanic Road until 10am race day.
The event is sponsored by Cayman National Bank, Coca Cola, High Impact Media, and Water Authority Cayman.
As an added bit of fun, participants can also celebrate the Queen's Birthday holiday by creating a fancy-dress Royal Fascinator. Photos of the design should be uploaded to social media tagging the Botanic Park’s social media pages and using the hashtags #QEIIBPRunWalk and #QEIIBPFascinatorFun.
“The design that garners the most social media ‘likes’ will win a prize and bragging rights of course! We look forward to corporations getting involved and we hope this little competition fosters some good old fashioned friendly office rivalry,” said Mr. Lawrus.
