Residents turned up in their numbers on Saturday 23rd September for the annual, BRENDA TIBBETTS-LUND MEMORIAL Walk/Run event. Long before sunrise, and with a cool, refreshing breeze in the atmosphere, participants began assembling at the Brac Reef Beach Resort, the starting point for this much anticipated annual event. The route would be from Brac Reef Beach Resort to Foster’s Corner and back.
Apart from adults, the crowd included Primary students, as well as, students from the Layman Scott High School. They were especially excited as they endeavoured to outdo each other. After the initial remarks and prayer, those walking only took their positions at the starting line. Under the instructions of Mr. Malcolm Ramlogan, the new Physical Education Teacher for the High School, the walkers were on their way.
The runners were then put through a short, stretching routine by Mr. Ramlogan, as he emphasized to them the benefits and virtues of stretching prior to any activity as this. Such an exercise was a first for the event. Participants were fully engaged and appreciated it. Soon after, the walkers were on their way, chatting and cheering on each other as they ran. It was a joy to behold the youngsters trying to outpace their adult competitors. It made for great fun. Along the route was the police, as well as, the E.M.T from Faith Hospital.
After the walk/run event there was an in-house, health presentation for the general public on, Breast Cancer Awareness.
The annual event was sponsored by The Lions Club of Tropical Gardens and Lions Club of Cayman Brac.
