The British Prime Minister Boris Johnson was transferred to intensive care in a London hospital early Monday evening UK time as his condition is said to have worsened.
Upon hearing the news during the live Cayman Islands daily Government press conference, Hon. Prime Minister Alden McLaughlin extended recovery wishes to the British leader.
As a British Overseas Territory, Mr Johnson is ultimately responsible for the Cayman Islands.
Mr McLaughlin said the concerns over the health of Prime Minister Johnson shows that COVID-19 is no respecter of persons regardless of age or social status.
He described the British prime minister as a person of fairly young age and “boundless energy” but who has yet been struck down by the virus.
Premier McLaughlin again stressed the need for the residents of the Cayman Islands to follow the stipulations of the Government’s ongoing measures to prevent contracting the disease individually and spreading it throughout the community.
Prime Minister Johnson was hospitalised on Sunday evening for what was described as persistent coronavirus symptoms.
He had been in isolation and working from home for the past 10 days but his condition is said to have worsened on Monday afternoon.
The Prime Minister's Office, 10 Downing Street, said Mr Johnson was moved to the ICU as a precaution should he require ventilation.
