BURGER KING CAYMAN ISLANDS WIND UP THEIR FOURTH ANNUAL FISHING TOURNAMENT - BK BIG FISH

28th Burger King Cayman Islands has wound up their fourth annual fishing tournament, the BK BIG FISH. The tournament was held in association with Cayman Islands Angling Club and also raised funds for the YMCA of the Cayman Islands.

The event was the largest yet, with a record breaking 85 boats and 366 anglers fishing all three Cayman Islands over three days, with the hope of catching the heaviest yellowfin tuna, barracuda, dolphin or wahoo. Anglers were also competing to catch and release the most blue marlin.

Burger King Cayman Islands also partnered with CIAC and the Department of Environment to host the fourth Big Fish Kids Fishing Clinic on March 20th and 21st. Hosted at the Barcadere Marina, and supported by the Guy Harvey Ocean Foundation, the event was attended by local children over the two days. The clinic taught those in attendance the importance of fishing, knots, and conservation.

The BK BIG FISH tournament organizer Gary Rutty was delighted with the turn out, “Burger King have been a long time supporter of the Cayman Islands Angling Club and we were delighted to put on a record breaking tournament. While it is fun to put on the competition for anglers across all three islands, we take immense pride in giving something back to the community. Raising money for the YMCA of the Cayman Islands and educating local kids on the basics of fishing and conservation is always rewarding for us and we were delighted to be able to bring the Cayman fishing community together once again after a difficult 2020.”

Participants had a great time on the water with highlights including 5 blue marlin releases, 10 wahoo catches, 16 yellowfin tuna catches, and 18 barracuda catches.
