A common convenient form of payment elsewhere in the world, Google Pay is now in the Cayman Islands, brought in this month by Butterfield. As a result, Butterfield clients can now take advantage of simple and secure contactless payments and digital card storage on both Android and WearOS devices.
Customers simply need to ensure they have a valid Google account, then download the Google Wallet app from Google Play onto any Android/Google smartphone. They then have to add their Butterfield Credit or Debit card by selecting “add to wallet” and then “payment card” and then follow the remaining steps to register their card. Once the card has been activated, they can use their phone to pay for goods or services.
Designed for Android users, Google Pay allows users to conveniently and securely pay for purchases, both in-store and online. In-person transactions work the same way as any other contactless/tap transaction. Customers place their Android device next to the payment terminal at the merchant, and payment is effected, without the need for a physical card. All Butterfield Point of Sale terminals should have Google Pay enabled; however, customers may encounter some incompatibility with older terminals from other banks, Butterfield advises. Google Pay is also compatible with e-commerce/online purchases on websites that support this payment method. Just choose Google Pay at checkout.
Customers can be sure that their card details will remain secure at all times, as data is digitally stored and tokenised – meaning full card information is not stored on the phone and never shared with the merchant.
The maximum limit per transaction is CI$100.00 and up to 30 transactions per day.
