New COVID protocols are coming into force in the British Virgin Islands from next month.
These cover both residents and arrivals with some stipulations being relaxed and others being adjusted in keeping with the ongoing vaccination campaign.
Minister for Health and Social Development Carvin Malone said effective May 15th fully vaccinated persons travelling from overseas would require a PCR test within five (5) days of travel as well as providing satisfactory evidence of being fully vaccinated.
They will also be required to take a PCR test upon arrival. Fully vaccinated persons will be quarantined until a negative test result is received from the BVI Health Services Authority.
Health and Social Affairs Minister, Carvin Malone, said: “In relaxing the travel requirements for persons who have been fully vaccinated, and permitting larger gatherings, there will be an increased risk of exposure to the virus that causes COVID-19 among the resident population. This is why other prevention measures such as mask-wearing, hand washing, and physical distancing will remain in effect, and vaccines continue to be widely distributed while they remain in stock.”
New restrictions limit gatherings to a maximum of 100 persons, except for faith-based services, graduation ceremonies, wedding ceremonies and funerals where up to 250 people can attend.
However, persons who are considered vulnerable are restricted to five per group.
