In their Covid report for the week 13 to 19 February, the Ministry of Health and Wellness noted the numbers of positive Covid-19 cases were dropping since the previous weeks. During that week, there were 562 new cases of Covid-19. This was 417 cases less than were reported in the previous week of 6 to 12 February and the statistics showed a continued a decline in weekly new cases that had been evident since late-January, they said.
During the week of 13 to 19 February, 3,098 tests were conducted compared to 4,716 tests in the previous week and 6,810 tests during the first week of February. The number of people who have died remains at 17 as at 19 February.
Also during this week, there were 16 hospital inpatients going through George Town Hospital and Health City, as compared to 21 from the previous week.
With regard to the most up-to-date statistics are concerned, Public Health advised that there were 71 new positive cases as of 21 February and 56 as of 22 February.
As of 22 February, there were 1,366 estimated active cases of Covid-19 in the Cayman Islands. Nine patients were hospitalised for Covid-related causes and of these, one was partially vaccinated and six were unvaccinated.
The Sister Islands also noted five new cases since the last report, bringing total cases there since the beginning of the pandemic to 525.
Kids vaccines roll out this weekend
The good news for parents is that vaccinations for all children ages 5 to 11 began last weekend. Appointments can be made by contacting the Public Health Clinic at 926-8152 (Grand Cayman) or 244-7643 (Sister Islands).
