Biodegradable six-pack rings
Caybrew six-pack
Caybrew is proud to announce the launch of an eco-friendly packaging solution: biodegradable six-pack rings for all Caybrew canned products. This innovative step makes Caybrew the first mass producer in the Cayman Islands to move to 100% plastic-free packaging.
The adoption of this sustainable technology aligns with Caybrew’s ongoing sustainability commitment, whilst continuing to deliver the ‘premium beer of the Cayman Islands’. In November the new ‘Earth Rings’ will feature on products at retailers and the Caybrew Taproom allowing customers a 100% plastic-free option when purchasing beer.
Revolutionary Eco-Friendly Packaging
The new six-pack rings are made from several layers of solid fiber cardboard, providing a robust and durable solution for carrying beer cans while being 100% biodegradable and compostable. Unlike traditional plastic packaging, these rings do not contribute to landfill waste and will naturally break down, ensuring they have no harmful environmental impact.
“At Caybrew, we’re always looking for ways to reduce our environmental impact, and introducing these biodegradable six-pack rings is a significant milestone,” said Craig Webster, General Manager and Chief Financial Officer at Caybrew. “For years, this innovation has been a key objective of ours, as it represented the final hurdle in achieving 100% plastic-free packaging. It’s a testament to our commitment to sustainability and protecting the islands we love.”
A Comprehensive Sustainability Commitment
The introduction of biodegradable six-pack rings is just one of several key initiatives at Caybrew, which include:
• 100% Plastic-Free Packaging: On 1 October 2024 Caybrew completely removed all plastic from their packaging, using bio-degradable rings and printing directly onto the cans, eliminating plastic labels. Cans are made from 100% recyclable aluminum which ensures a more sustainable and environmentally friendly solution.
• Bottle Reuse Program: Customers can return a case of empty bottles to the Caybrew Taproom, Blackbeard’s, or Jacques Scott for a $4 discount on their next purchase. The returned bottles are sanitised and reused, reducing waste, and supporting a circular economy.
• White Tip Shark Conservation: A portion of every sale of our White Tip Lager goes directly to shark conservation efforts, in partnership with the Guy Harvey Ocean Foundation and the Cayman Islands Department of Environment. To date, we have donated US$275k+ to shark research initiatives.
• Solar-Powered Brewery: With solar panels installed on the brewery’s roof, we generate a significant portion of our energy needs, further lowering our carbon footprint.
• Reusing Spent Grains: Leftover grains from the brewing process are given to local farmers as livestock feed, promoting sustainable agriculture.
• Grain bags: Donated to local beach clean-up groups to collect trash.
Join us in protecting the environment
We invite our customers to be part of this sustainability journey by returning bottles, recycling cans, and choosing products with biodegradable packaging. Every action we take together helps protect the Cayman Islands environment for future generations.
