In 2024, Cayman First Insurance Company (“Cayman First”) marks 40 years of service to the Cayman Islands. As part of its anniversary celebrations, Cayman First has committed CI$40,000 to local charities and not-for-profit organisations in 2024, as well as ongoing volunteer efforts, fundraising and other internal initiatives throughout the year.
Founded in 1984, Cayman First is a leading insurance provider in the Cayman Islands, having expanded its offerings from an exclusively general insurance portfolio to now writing property, motor, liability and health insurance. The company has been a subsidiary of Bahamas First Holdings Limited (“the Group”) since 2010. Affiliate Bahamas First General Insurance Company Limited (“Bahamas First”), the leading general insurance carrier in The Bahamas, celebrated its 40th anniversary in 2023. Cayman First and Bahamas First have both retained an A- (Excellent) financial strength rating from A.M. Best, the leading international rating agency for insurance companies.
“Our 40th anniversary comes at a time when global issues such as the cost of living and climate change are creating extremely tough times for many local charities and organisations and the people and initiatives they support,” says Mr. Chris Hind, Chief Executive Officer of Cayman First. “As a company already focused on helping people through crisis, and having a responsibility to protect the community, we are pleased to confirm our commitment to the future of the Cayman Islands by facilitating much-needed financial support for the communities we serve.”
Cayman First will kick off the initiative with a CI$10,000 donation to the Cayman Islands Insurance Association (“CIIA”), to support the association’s scholarship programme. The CIIA provides a combined annual scholarship opportunity, to enhance the Cayman Islands Government Scholarship Award, to one Caymanian student interested in the insurance industry and pursuing studies in insurance, risk management or actuarial sciences.
The initiative is part of the Group’s commitment this year to the communities it serves, having recently refreshed its community and volunteer programme, Charities of Firsts, including a new name, First Hand, and logo. Cayman First also just launched several supporting internal initiatives, including a commitment by each employee to offer volunteer hours to community service in 2024, with one additional day of paid annual leave given to every employee who reaches 40 hours of service, and First Fridays, an in-office celebration on the first Friday of every month.
“Our mission inspires us to leverage our business of insurance every day to create a positive impact for us all; as an insurance provider, employer and in the community,” adds Hind. “We want to be a part of driving transformative change so we can all thrive today and in the future, with our 40-year anniversary initiative being just the start.”
