Cayman has talent

Kerrie Forbes, UCCI Alumna is Cayman’s First Female Forecaster

During this time of considerable turmoil in Cayman right now it is great to hear some good news. Two highly talented young Caymanians have really stood out in recent weeks as shining examples of Caymanian talent who we, at the Caymanian Times, are delighted to congratulate for their hard work, which has already led them to great heights early on in their lives.

Walkers legal scholarship recipient Francisco Hernandez was called to the Bar on 20th August after successfully completing his legal training with the firm. He marks the 60th articled clerk to have trained in Walkers’ Cayman Islands office since the inception of the firm’s articled clerk programme in 1983. This is great news, and we should congratulate Francisco for attaining this important milestone in his career. Extremely well-educated, Francisco completed a Bachelor of Arts degree with Honours in Justice Political and Philosophical Law, with a minor in Religious Studies, from McMaster University in Ontario, Canada. In 2018 he went on to obtain his Masters in Law with Merit from the University of Bristol, and in 2019 the Legal Practice Course with Distinction at the University of Law, also in Bristol. We wish him well in his future career with Walkers as he begins working in their Investment Funds Group.

Also, just recently, Cayman saw its first female forecaster, Kerrie Forbes, take up her post. Kerrie, a UCCI alumni, earned an associates degree in science from UCCI and went on to study at the University of Exeter in the UK, where an ad for an internship at the local meteorological station piqued her interest in the subject. Kerrie joined the National Weather Service in 2018, the same year she graduated with a bachelor’s degree from Exeter, but her learning does not stop there, and she plans on taking online courses through the Caribbean Institute of Meteorology and Hydrology in Barbados and she also hopes to pursue a master’s degree in climate and meteorology in the near future, too. Kerrie is a shining example of a young person who is not afraid to pursue new and exciting possibilities and has a brilliant career awaiting her.

We think both young Caymanians are excellent role models for their peers, and we wish them all the very best in their new positions.
