The Cayman Islands Chamber of Commerce is proud to announce the launch of a new educational initiative designed to highlight the importance and sophistication of the Cayman Islands’ financial services industry. The initiative, part of the Growth Matters Education Series, aims to deepen the local and global understanding of the financial services offered in the Cayman Islands through a series of informative animated videos.

The official launch took place on Wednesday, 8 May, with a showing of all ten videos in the new series at the Camana Bay Cinema. Hon. André Ebanks, Deputy Premier and Minister for Financial Services and Commerce, Members of the Chamber Council, sponsors, and all those who have played a pivotal role in the series’ success attended.

“When I go into schools, I am asked the basic question: ‘What’s the primary economic driver of the economy?’” Minister Ebanks said, “So now you’ve done this second in the series, to explain financial services whose products aren’t easy to summarise into those nutshell messages - It’s an outstanding achievement.” Financial Services Matters “adds another tool to how we will educate Cayman financial services- locally and internationally. So, credit to the Chamber and all the creators –may it thrive and succeed.”

Chamber President Joanne Lawson said, “This initiative aligns directly with our national desire to see a national human capital plan. It enhances the wider understanding of financial services and their role in the global economy. It highlights the range of world-class services and the high level of expertise in the Cayman Islands.

“The Chamber of Commerce has collaborated with various partners for this initiative, including the Ministry of Financial Services and Commerce, the Cayman Islands Funds Administrators Association, the Alternative Investment Management Association, the Cayman Financial Analysts Society, the Cayman Islands Bankers Association, PWC, BDO, and Ogier. These partnerships have been instrumental in the initiative’s development and launch.”

This initiative was inspired by the success of the original Growth Matters series in 2017 and the subsequent demand from industry professionals for resources explicitly focused on financial services. The campaign, which values the role of students, industry

professionals, and anyone interested in learning about the intricacies of the Cayman Islands’ financial services, seeks to provide an accessible online learning tool.

Key Features of the Initiative:

Educational Videos: These videos, designed to be incorporated into the business studies curriculum of public and private schools, educate students about the financial services sector and the career opportunities it presents.

Community Engagement: The series will also serve as a resource for the wider community, enhancing local understanding of financial services and their role in the global economy.

Industry Insight: The initiative sets the Cayman Islands apart from other international financial centres by highlighting the range of world-class services and the high level of expertise available there.

The Chamber of Commerce has collaborated with various partners for this initiative, including The Ministry of Financial Services and Commerce and several key players in the private sector. These partnerships ensure a comprehensive and insightful educational experience for all viewers.

Following the success of this campaign, the Chamber plans to launch a similar series focused on the tourism sector, continuing its commitment to educating the public about critical economic pillars in the Cayman Islands.

“We are excited to provide a platform that informs and fosters understanding of our financial services sector. These videos will empower our students and residents to share their knowledge and clarify misconceptions about our financial services locally and globally,” said Chamber CEO Wil Pineau.
