The Cayman Islands National Weather Service (CINWS) has recognized Mr. Gilbert Miller as the 2018 Employee of the Year.

Mr. Miller is a Meteorologist I for the Cayman Islands National Weather Service and is also the lead meteorologist in charge of Maritime matters. On a day-to-day basis he is responsible for carrying out weather forecasts and issuing weather warnings.

Mr. Miller is currently completing an online Bachelor’s Degree in Operational Weather Forecasting at Mississippi State University. To support his professional development he has attended a variety of workshops and meetings which provide additional training, such as a wave modeling workshop held in 2018.

CINWS Director General John Tibbetts congratulated Mr. Miller, saying “This award is reflective of consistent high performance and I commend Gilbert for attaining this outstanding achievement. The success of our Department is largely dependent on having strong and capable staff members, and Gilbert’s contribution to the team is greatly appreciated.”

The Department also recognized Mr. Kirk Douglas as “Technical Engineer of the year” in part due to the development of the Weather APP and Mr. David Thompson as “Weather Observer of the year” for his contributions in assisting with establishing and managing the National Weather Service Facebook page.

The three employees were recognized at a staff appreciation function held on December 15th 2018.
