Cayman’s top youth sailors have arrived at the 2021 Youth Sailing World Champions, held near Muscat, Oman.

Charlotte Webster and Will Jackson are representing the Cayman Islands and are competing in the ILCA 6 single-handed dinghy, formerly known as the Laser Radial. The Championships take place from December 11th through December 17th at the Al Mussanah Sports City complex on the coast of the Gulf of Oman. The regatta features hundreds of top athletes from around the world competing in 9 different categories such as windsurfers, kite foiling, catamarans and dinghies.

The Cayman pair are reigning Cayman Islands champions in the ILCA class, and earlier this year they competed at the North American and British championships, where Webster placed as 2nd female in the ILCA 4 category at both events. They have been training in Oman this week with the World Sailing Emerging Nations Program, an elite performance training program provided by World Sailing and international coaches. Both sailors were invited by World Sailing to participate in the program based on their performance and participation records in World Sailing activities over the last year. The training program includes a rigorous mix of strength and conditioning workouts, classroom training, and twice-daily on-the-water sessions.

The Cayman Islands Sailing Team is grateful for the generous support provided by the Cayman Islands Olympic Committee and to the Cayman Islands National Sailing Center at the Cayman Islands Sailing Club for their support and coordination activities as the official body representing sailing in the Cayman Islands.
