Cayman Water Company Limited will be celebrating its 50th anniversary on 31 August with a special Business After Hours. The event will take place at the Abel Castillo Water Works, Peninsular Way, Governor’s Harbour, beginning at 5.30pm.
It will be a great opportunity to network with Chamber members and Cayman Water customers over refreshments, while learning more about how this remarkable company has served Cayman’s businesses and people for half a century. There’ll be great giveaways and raffle prizes, plus a guided tour of the desalination plant.
“I would like to invite the community to a celebration of 50 years supplying Grand Cayman with reliable and high-quality potable water,” said Cayman Water Company’s General Manager, Manuel Thomaz, “Please Join us for this special customer appreciation event.”
The Cayman Water Company has consistently sought ways to better serve its customers, keeping up with increasing demands by regularly upgrading its capacity and modernizing its equipment: “We are always planning for potential capacity four or five years ahead of time,” Mr. Thomaz explained.
Recently, the company has been developing a major new desalination facility located in Powery Road, West Bay, the first phase of which will produce one million gallons a day. When Phase two is complete, it will be able to produce two million gallons of water a day for the people of West Bay.
Cayman Water Company began providing water and sewerage services to the Governor’s Harbour residential development on Seven Mile Beach on 31st August 1973.
In 1979 the company received a 20-year water production and distribution license from the Cayman Islands government to supply the West Bay Beach area of Grand Cayman. Water production was relocated to the present Abel Castillo Water Works site in Governor’s Harbour. This license was renewed in 1990 for another 20 years.
In 1996 the Cayman Water Company was listed on the NASDAQ National Market in the U.S. In the same year, Cayman Water retired its last seawater distillation desalination unit in Grand Cayman and transitioned to 100% seawater desalination by reverse osmosis. Cayman Water’s sister company, Ocean Conversion Cayman Limited, designs, builds and operates high-capacity desalination plants for the Water Authority, located at Red Gate Road in George Town.
