Caymanian Talent Wins PSPB 2024 Employee of Year Award

The Public Service Pensions Board (PSPB) is pleased to announce that Jose Vasquez has been selected as the 2024 Chief Executive Officer’s (CEO) Employee of the Year Award recipient.

Each year, the CEO selects an employee of the Authority who best demonstrates living the organization’s values and who has shown to be going above and beyond the normal call of duty in their role. “Jose has long been a developing leader within the PSPB, and he has made incredible strides in taking on more responsibility and every time that he does, he outperforms all expectations of him,” said Jewel Evans Lindsey, Chief Executive Officer of the PSPB.

In October 2024, Jose Vasquez was appointed to the role of Acting Manager, Projects, within the Information Technology and Project Management Department. Further, Mr. Vasquez was also confirmed in his promoted base full-time position of Business Process Analyst and has assumed the acting manager position on a go forward basis.

Vasquez started with the PSPB right out of university following the completion of his Associate Degree in Business Administration in 2017. Starting as an Assistant Member Services Officer, Vasquez developed in three different positions previously within the PSPB and has now grown into this key leadership position within the Authority in seven short years. During his time with the PSPB, Vasquez demonstrated his commitment to continued learning by completing his Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting from the University College of the Cayman Islands.

“Since he started with the PSPB, Jose has grown into key roles within the PSPB and I grateful to present him this award in recognition of his efforts, contributions and results achieved over the past year,” said Evans Lindsey. “Jose has spent his entire young career with the PSPB and over the years, he has blossomed into the professional that is he today”.

In his newest role, Vasquez is responsible for all key projects for the Authority, including the expansion of the PSPB’s pension administration system, pensioner confirmation campaigns, actuarial and data valuation analysis and many other functions.

The ever modest developing professional, in accepting his award, thanked God and acknowledged the contributions and support he has had along the way in his career. “When I started at PSPB, I had no experience working in an office or serving members, so everything I learned was taught to me by someone here at PSPB. I feel inclined to give special mention to one specific person, Ms. Hannah Carter, my first supervisor who mentored me and laid a good foundation,” said Vasquez. “Also, to Ms. Jewel Evans Lindsey, I say thanks for second chances, the many opportunities, this award and especially for fostering a culture of kindness; a supportive and caring environment where a younger me was allowed to learn, grow, and develop at the right pace, making me into the professional I am today.”

Receiving the Employee of the Year Award and in looking at the achievements of past recipients, Vasquez joins a collection of winners who have demonstrated their leadership and commitment to building on the PSPB brand. In addition, the Authority has also recognized Tiffany Hydes with the Authority’s inaugural PSPB Member Services Ambassador Award, which is given to the employee who best exemplifies exceptional service and excels in representing the PSPB. Please join the PSPB team in congratulating Jose and Tiffany on receiving their awards.
