They will be on the Road, with beautiful costumes and plenty of feathers, albeit on a different date.
The Directors of CayMAS Carnival are excited to announce the provisional Road Closure approval from the Royal Cayman Islands Police Services (RCIPS) and the plans for CayMAS Carnival 2021. However, dates have changed due to the Covid-19 pandemic from the Discovery Day Holiday Weekend in May, to the Constitution Holiday Weekend, 30th June – 5th July. The Chairman of CayMAS Carnival, Mr. Brent McLean said. “July is the best Pandemic choice and the last long weekend until November which is Pirates Week. In keeping things localized we still have logistics to consider and to give the vaccine time for acceptance mainly and hopefully the local gathering limit to be lifted to allow us free movement in July, are the primary factors in the move. May is ideal timing for what CayMAS has built since 2016 but with Covid-19, the more time given to the Government to accomplish their goal of herd immunity, the better. We will work diligently with the Royal Cayman Islands Police Services (RCIPS) and the Government on guidelines set in place to ensure a safe, professional and successful Carnival in July.”
The Directors have been in discussions on how the country could commemorate the spectacular achievement we collectively have achieved within the past year, by celebrating what will likely be, the Region’s first full-blown Carnival since Trinidad Carnival in February 2020. A Director of CayMAS, Craig Frederick said, “We have all sacrificed a lot in the beginning, but we are now the envy of the world for the position we are in. To be able to plan a full-scale Carnival INCLUDING a Road Parade is a massive accomplishment for the country, all because of the fortitude and leadership of our Government, and the disciplined and cooperative Residents. We are excited to be in the stage of planning what we anticipate will be the most spectacular Carnival Experience, Cayman has ever seen.”
CayMAS has conducted a survey on the possibilities of this move via SurveyMonkey, and the response has been very reassuring of what we, the CayMAS Family, want to bring to our beloved Cayman Isles. Out of approximately 375 participants, only 7% felt that there should not be a Carnival this year and over 80% agreed that this move, if made permanent, could become the Marquee National Event for Summer in the Cayman Islands.
They are striving to give the people of the Cayman Islands, especially those who love Carnival, an opportunity to release some stress, to get glammed up in costumes and feathers, and enjoy a Holiday weekend of pure Carnival Bliss.
