Cayman Prep and High School organised a Gift Drive for the Cayman Islands Family Service Department. The project was led by students in Y9 who recognised that with a little effort they can make a big difference to children who are not as fortunate as themselves. All students were encouraged to participate by donating a gift for those children under the supervision of the Cayman Islands Department for Children and Family Services this Christmas. They collected almost 200 gifts.
Students Nadia Simmonds, Ciara Galway, Cammy Cansell, Jenny Gray, Leah Alberga and Olivia Barnett delivered the gifts to the Department for Children and Family Services and had the opportunity to meet with some of the foster carers who were there to see the children receive the gifts. Finding out about the work done by these amazing women was a moving experience for everyone. Just about all of the gifts have been given out to families now and they are most thankful.
“We just want to do something nice for children who may not have any gifts under the Christmas Tree this year. We want nothing in return, “said Nadia Simmonds, Y9 pupil who instigated the initiative.
“I am incredibly proud of Nadia and the rest of 9H for organising such a commendable project at such an important time of year. It really helps them to appreciate how fortunate they are and allows them to give something back to the community,” said Mrs. Lucy Baker, 9H Form Tutor, lead teacher.
“It fills me with great pride when students come to see me of their own volition seeking permission to carry out such initiatives in the schools’ name without the desire nor request for personal recognition,” added Phillip Burgess, High School Principal.
