CILLA Girls Softball – Game Report

Coldwell Banker 10, Scotiabank 10

 

CILLA Girls Softball concluded the regular season on May 22th, as Coldwell Banker and Scotiabank played a see-saw game that ended in a 10-10 tie.

 

Coldwell Banker scored three in the first inning as Annie Hawkins, Aydis Rostran and Madison Malice all crossed home. The runs scored on a grounder by Kenia Rostran and a throwing error by Scotiabank.

 

The first five batters reached and scored for Scotiabank in the bottom of the inning. Martina Watler, Clara Ramos, Carmella Ylagan and Stephanie Menko all walked and Shay Windsor followed with a grand slam homer to left field.

 

Neither team scored in the second inning as both pitchers settled down, while both teams played solid defense.

 

Coldwell Banker scored six runs in the third. Deandra Bush doubled and scored, while Reyah Stewart and Eowyn Hawkins walked and scored. Chadene Brooks had an RBI on a fielder’s choice and she and Annie scored on a three run homer by Aydis to cap the inning.

 

Scotiabank scored once the third inning as Shay doubled and scored on a single by Calissa Ylagan.

 

Coldwell Banker scored their tenth run in the top of the fourth on a single by Reyah Stewart and Chadene’s RBI grounder.

 

Scotiabank rallied for four runs in the fourth to tie the score at 10-10. Martina, Carmella and Stephanie all walked and Clara reached base after being hit by a pitch. All four runners scored with singles by Calissa and Kris-Maxine Aleria being the key hits.

 

Kris-Maxine also made a great defensive play, scooping up a fair ball just in front of home plate and firing a perfect throw to first base to put out the runner. Chadene made a good play for Coldwell Banker, stopping a ball in right field and throwing to second base in time for a force play on the runner.

 

Both teams used the game as a good way to prepare for their rematch to kick off the end-of-season mini-tournament.

Carmella Ylagan pitched five strong innings and Stephanie Menko drove in four runs, including a bases loaded triple, as Scotiabank defeated Coldwell Banker, 13-8, in the opening game of the Girls Softball mini-tournament.

 

Scotiabank scored five runs in the first inning, as Clara Ramos, Carmella, Stephanie, Shay Windsor and Calissa Ylagan all scored. The big hits were consecutive RBI singles by Shay, Calissa, and Krystal Morales-Ebanks. Scotiabank added another run in the second inning as Martina Watler walked and scored on an RBI single by Stephanie.

 

Coldwell Banker got on the board with two runs in the bottom of the inning as Eowyn Hawkins and Chadene Brooks both walked and scored, with Hannah Gibson delivering an RBI single.

 

After Scotiabank failed to score in the top of the third Coldwell Banker came back with another run on an RBI double by Deandra Bush, scoring Madison Malice.

 

In the top of the fourth Scotiabank plated three more runs as Carmella singled and scored, while Stephanie and Calissa both walked and scored. Calissa, Krystal, and Kris-Maxine Aleria all came through with clutch hits.

 

Scotiabank added four insurance runs in the top of the fifth. Martina, Clara, and Carmella all scored on Stephanie’s 3 RBI triple deep to the fence in left centre. Stephanie scored the final run on a single by Shay.

 

Coldwell battled back with five runs in the bottom of the fifth. Deandra led off the inning with an inside-the-park homer and Kenia Rostran followed with a triple. She scored on a single by Zhanna McDonald. Chadene walked and both runners scored on an RBI hit by Reyah Stewart. Lili Aleria had an RBI single to bring home Reyah for the final run.

 

Calissa and Martina both made good catches in the outfield for Scotiabank, who also turned an excellent double play in the first inning. Carmella and Stephanie each scored three runs for the victors. Deandra singled, doubled and homered to lead Coldwell Banker.

 

Kirk Freeport and Scotiabank play in the mini-tournament final on Wednesday, May 29th at 6:30 pm. All are welcome!
