CILLA Girls Softball – Game Report

Girls All-Star Game

The Cayman Islands Little League Girls played their All-Star game under the lights on Wednesday, June 5th.

The girls were separated into two teams of twelve for a fun game to showcase their talents for the spectators. Although the teams were balanced, Coach Monica’s squad came out determined for victory and defeated Coach John’s group 18-2. Deandra Whiteman and Aydis Rostran-Martin led the way for the victors with three runs each. Annie Hawkins, Zhanna McDonald, Keirsten McLaughlin and Clara Ramos chipped in with two runs apiece. Clara and Aydis each batted in two runs and Zhanna pitched three great innings, earning her ‘player of the game’ status and a game ball.

Women’s Alumni Softball Game

On Friday, June 7th, several women who played in Cayman Islands Little League softball over the past 25 years came out to the fields for a fun game. Players taking part included: Alikie Kandler, Breana Welds, Tariah LeMay, Kayla Welds, Jessica Bodden, Stephanie Gillies, Hannah Foreman, Kayla Whittaker, Brielle Watler, Elizabeth Westin, Tashaunda Hurlston, Kacie Ramos, Alisha Forbes, Maggie Ebanks. Current players Clara Ramos, Kris-Maxine Aleria and Madison Malice also joined in to fill the gaps and meet some of the players who paved the way for the league as it is today. The umpiring and coaching was done by veterans Jeremy Rice and Alnie Kandler. The ladies had great fun, and except for a few of them being out of breath, everyone survived the game just fine!

The girls softball season will officially conclude with a social for all three teams on Wednesday, June 12th. It is also hoped that the girls will continue training over the summer months and into the new school year. Any girls ages 11-18 interested in joining should send an e-mail to cilla.girls.softball@gmail.com.
