CIVF Crowns Two Youth Athletes the Prince and Princess of the Beach

Some of the players from the Youth National Development program traded in their sneakers and kneepads for swimwear and sunglasses this Saturday in order to compete in the Prince & Princess of the Beach. The ten athletes took to the court to fight for the honour bearing the crown.

The games got underway and each player played one set with every player being awarded individual points along the way. Switching partners for every set evened the playing field, so as a result many of the players were neck and neck for the majority of the competition. In the end Andrea Tognazzo and Joanna Robinson managed to breakaway from the pack and claimed the titles of Prince and Princess.

This beach event is a great opportunity for the youth players to apply the skills they’ve been working on in training while having fun in a friendly competition. The ultimate goal is to develop well rounded volleyball players that can adapt their style play to work alongside any of their peers. The crown was not the only positive take away from the event for Princess winner, Joanna Robinson, as she stated “Saturday’s games taught me self-discipline, persistence, and what it means to be a team player. There is no one man team in volleyball, so I am thankful for everyone I played with.” CIVF looks forward to seeing if Tognazzo and Robinson can defend their titles at the next Prince and Princess of the Beach, which is scheduled to take place on March 14th at Public Beach from 2:00 - 4:00 pm.
