Coast Guard Officer Completes CMA Course

Petty Officer Dwight Hunter of the Cayman Islands Coast Guard has been commended for successfully completing his Warrant Officer Qualification course earlier this month in Kingston at the Caribbean Military Academy, the academic institutional arm of the Jamaica Defence Force.

During the programme, which incorporated practical training and leaderships skills, Petty Officer Hunter participated in a number of physical and mental challenges covering a range of subjects. He was exposed to several areas including military and civil law, social etiquette, military protocol, information technology, public speaking and elocution, and counselling.

Commandant of the Cayman Islands Coast Guard, Commander Robert Scotland has commended Petty Officer Hunter on finishing in the top twenty-fifth percentile of his cohort, noting that this is a notable accomplishment. “We are very proud of his achievement and feel certain that the training he has completed will strengthen our work in maintaining law and order in Cayman’s territorial waters, search and rescue operations, and international maritime communications,” he stated.

“I am extremely grateful for the support and guidance received from my colleagues and mentors,” said Petty Officer Hunter as he reflected on his success and encouragement received from the Cayman Islands Coast Guard. He continued, “It was a challenging and rigorous journey, but the knowledge and skills I gained will undoubtedly enhance my ability to serve”.

The Caribbean Military Academy provides a broad range of training and courses to developing militaries and para-military organisations from across the Caribbean region and around the world. Established in 2019 to function as a military university, it is the first of its kind in the Caribbean.
