Crooks fastest in FINA final

Cayman swimming sensation Jordan Crooks is the top seed going in to the finals of the 100 metres freestyle at the FINA World Championships Short Course (25m) in Melbourne, Australia.

The 20-year-old Caymanian swam his preliminary swim in one of the unseeded heats, and emerged as the fastest semi-final qualifier. Crooks surpassed that in the semis, emerging as the fastest qualifier for the finals in 45.55 seconds. He swam a strong race from start to finish with Kyle Chalmers, home crowd favourite and world record holder the lane next to him.

Crooks’ 100m free broke the Cayman record of 47.61 set in 2010 by Shaune Fraser. In fact, his swim was so good, that his 50m split time of 21.70 broke Brett Fraser‘s Cayman Record as well. But medalling will be a tough ask for Crooks against Maxime Grousset, who qualified second in 45.58, Chalmers, defending champion Alessandro Miressi, and long course world record hold David Popovici.

Anyone wishing to cheer him in in the finals, it will be on TV around 3:42am Cayman time on Thursday, 15 December.
