Cuba, a country with the best land for tobacco leaves to grow on, just celebrated the 22nd edition of the International Cigar Festival, solidifying its world-renowned reputation for producing the world’s best cigars.
Although Cuban cigars cannot officially access the significant market in the US which is worth over $500 million annually, cigar sales on the island have not gone up in smoke.
Considered to be the most influential cigar festival in the world, it involved different activities such as the presentation of new cigar bands, visits to plantations and factories, a trade fair, an auction of humidors, seminaries, a competition for sommeliers, the third edition of the Habanos Word Challenge, the launch of Montecristo perfume and the book ‘El bello habano’ by Reinaldo Gonzalez.
It ran from Feb. 24-28 in Havana. This Habanos Festival coincided with many anniversaries, including the 145th of the showcase brand Romeo y Julieta, Montecristo’s 85th birthday, Partagás 175th and Cuba’s La Casa del Habano international franchise’s 30th.
