Cuba is not renowned for its culinary pleasures, yet it has just had a food festival and plans to attract foodies from all over the world.
Cuba’s President, Miguel Díaz-Canel, and Prime Minister Manuel Marrero, attended the closing ceremony of the International Culinary Workshop Cuba Sabe 2020, held at the Iberostar Grand Packard Hotel in Havana.
The event ran from Jan 9-11 and was attended by more than 200 delegates from the United States, Mexico, Spain, United Kingdom and Italy. It promoted genuine Cuban cuisine.
The island's tourism minister, Juan Carlos García, announced the foundation of the Cuban Association of Sommeliers, to help safeguard the country's gastronomic values.
Garcia noted that events of this type show that Cuba should be visited not only to enjoy its world-class beaches, but its gastronomic attractions, as well.
The event offered an ideal opportunity for national and international chefs to share experiences and to promote the diversity of Cuban cuisine.
The conference, organized by the cultural tourism agency Paradiso, the Ministry of Tourism, the Cuban Culinary Federation and the Spanish hotel chain Iberostar, was also attended by national suppliers, to strengthen ties with chefs in the country.
