Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS) staff marked International Social Work Day with a Dress for a Cause event on Tuesday, 17 March 2020.
The event was the first time that the U.N. observation was celebrated in the Cayman Islands. Members of the department’s Elderly Services, Adoption and Foster Care, Youth Services, Family Services, Multi-Agency Safeguarding Hub (M.A.S.H.) and Community Development Teams were present. Attendees wore Social Work Month T-shirts, emblazoned with this year’s theme: “Social Work Generations Strong.”
Held at the department’s new offices at 87 Mary Street, Apollo House East, the photo opp. was originally scheduled to be held on the front step of the Government Administration Building. The change of venue was made to comply with the COVID-19 measures that prohibit gatherings of 50 or more persons.
“We wanted to acknowledge the last event that DCFS is able to hold for Social Work Month due to coronavirus. Our remaining events have been postponed to a later date,” said DCFS Director Mrs. Paulinda Mendoza-Williams.
“We are mindful that demand for our services will increase during this difficult time. I am confident that our staff and management will meet the challenge by addressing the needs of the community’s most vulnerable members,” she concluded.
