Number 20. In the Series is: Marsee Walton from the BRAC - New Record Holder Discus U13

Marsee Walton hails from Cayman Brac, and is a student at Layman Scott High School, Cayman BRAC

She is 11 years old soon to be 12; and competed in U13 Age Category 2024 Inter Secondary Schools Track & Field Meet on Grand Cayman

Marsee is now the new “Record Holder” for Discus in the U13 Age Category. She threw an impressive 20.6 meters at this year’s Inter Secondary Schools Track and Field Meet breaking the previous record comfortably.

She is also the 2024 Layman Scott High School Champion Girl - U13 Age Group and the disciplines she competed in were: Shot Put; Discus; Long Jump & High Jump. Marsee is talented and dedicated. She represents #InspireInclusion!

Sports Medicine Physician Bio: A champion for women in sports both on and off the field, Dr. Gillian E. Lawrence wears many hats: ex athlete, physician, and entrepreneur. A graduate of the Cayman Islands High School. She pursued a Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering from Howard University and a Master’s of Science Degree from George Washington University.

Dr. Lawrence represented the Cayman Islands on a National level in both Squash and Football during her collegiate years and continued whilst working for another 10 years in the field of Engineering. She then made her penultimate move and completed her Doctor of Medicine at the St. Matthew’s University School of Medicine and a Master’s degree in Sports Medicine from the University of the West Indies (Mona Academy of Sports Medicine).

Dr. Lawrence is currently the lead Team Doctor for the Reggae Girlz, just off their historic run at the FIFA Women’s World Cup in Summer 2023. She is also the lead female physician on the Jamaican Football Medical Committee, one out of only 2 doctors in Jamaica certified by FIVB for International Team Volleyball and is the local representative member on the NORCECA Medical Commission for Volleyball.

She is also the Team Doctor for “Football is Freedom” girls development program. Dr. Lawrence champions athlete wellness outside of competitive sports through her founding and coownership of ImagineMORE Sports Med Ltd.

Her dedication extends beyond treating injuries as she is a role model and advocate for women’s participation and leadership in sports at all levels She personifies #InspireInclusion!

 

Number 22. In the Series is: Department of Sports IWD Wellness Presenter Dr. Karina Palmer - Forde, BSc (Hons), MD

Dr. Palmer is a Medical Doctor in the Women’s Health Department at the Cayman Islands Health Services Authority. She runs the Well Woman’s Clinic at the HSA, where she sees women for routine well women’s check ups, including STD screenings, cervical and breast cancer screening, and family planning.

She received her medical degree from St. George’s University in Grenada in 2005. She then completed her internship and worked as a Registrar in Obstetrics and Gynecology at the Milton Cato Memorial Hospital in St. Vincent and the Grenadines from 2007 to 2011. Upon returning home to the Cayman Islands in 2011, she worked in the Women’s Health Clinic to this date.

In 2020, Dr. Palmer completed training in the Forensic Examination of Sexual Assaults and Rapes and in addition to her duties at Women’s Health, she is a Forensic Examiner for Sexual Assault cases at the HSA.

Outside of work, Dr. Palmer is mother to two teenagers and wife to her husband, Brent. She enjoys spending time with her family, traveling, reading and playing the piano. Also, she likes to keep physically active. She played netball in high school; walk 2-3 times a week, also does strength training couple times a week and sometimes cardio kickboxing and dance workouts.  Dr. Palmer represents #InspireInclusion!
