Premier Hon. Juliana O’Connor-Connolly was presented an original work of art by Caymanian artist and East End native, Carmen Eugenia Conolly, at the Office of the Premier, Government Administration Building on Elgin Avenue recently.

In presenting the embroidered art work, titled, ‘Cayman Sea Breeze,’ to the Premier, Mrs. Conolly stated that she got the inspiration for the piece after taking a ride on a submarine.

A highly respected member of the Caymanian community, Mrs. Conolly continues to support the Islands’ rich heritage through her creative pieces. She was recently appointed a Member of the Order of the Cayman Islands for services to the community, contributions to the arts and preservation of Caymanian heritage. Mrs. Conolly is also a recipient of the National Heroes Day award in the category of Cultural Artists and Creatives.

Premier O’Connor-Connolly in expressing her gratitude to the artist stated, “It is truly an honour to receive this work of art from Mrs. Conolly. She is an inspiration to Caymanians at home and abroad for her continuous efforts to promote and preserve Caymanian heritage through her signature needlework art, thatch-work and culinary arts. We are certainly indebted to her for helping us to remain connected to all things Caymanian.”

She continued, “I want to also commend and thank her for her willingness to always participate in demonstrations of traditional Caymanian arts, teaching generations of younger Caymanians in our schools and at district art classes.”

Also sharing in the special presentation were Kenross Conolly and Bryna McLaughlin, son and granddaughter of Mrs. Conolly, Hon. Isaac Rankine, Minister for Youth, Sports and Heritage and Member of Parliament for East End along with Sharon Bodden-Welcome from the constituency.

Hon. Isaac Rankine shared how proud he was of Mrs. Connolly for her commitment to preserving Cayman’s heritage through her artist creations. “Mrs. Connolly is always invested in making sure the Cayman Islands history are always told through her art and stories. We are certainly proud to have her art on display in the Premier’s Office.”

Mrs. Conolly’s art now hangs in Premier O’Connor-Connolly office, fulfilling her life-long dream of having her work displayed in the Government Administration Building.
