Easter is a time that some associate with a long weekend to relax and unwind, perhaps camping at the beach or simply at home.
As a God-fearing society, Easter is celebrated in honour of the ultimate sacrifice that Christ paid as a mark of his love for mankind. So, as we enjoy the long weekend, we should reflect on what it means to be a Christian society.
Love for one another, despite our differences, is a prime teaching of Christ that as a society we often forget. We spit vitriol against each other simply because we have differing views on a topic. Often it is not a case of right or wrong but a matter of perspective, but we let that tear us apart.
There are many divisive issues out there that demand our attention. However, although we stand on separate sides of the divide, it does not make us enemies. If we all love the Cayman Islands as the place we call home and where we conduct business, we should have a love for the people who make up this wonderful community.
It was during the Sermon on the Mount that Christ reminded us that “blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called the children of God.” So, let us use this opportunity when most of us have a few days away from the regular hustle and bustle of our often busy lives to reflect and show compassion and understanding for one another.
