We read with interest the Compass’ move to collaborate with Government and its new stance as a more community-focused newspaper. In its six years of operation, The Caymanian Times (formerly Cayman Weekly) has striven to be just that, and more, concentrating our focus locally to bring coverage of local news and events. We have gradually built up strong support from the local population who enjoy our impartial reporting, our passion for local news and our efforts to inform, educate and sometimes entertain. But crucially we have always maintained our independence, something which we believe has been vital to our success. Being a community newspaper means we do have to present issues to our readers that might be at odds with the present Government of the day and we do not shy away from presenting these issues to our readers. Independence is the cornerstone of a free press which, in turn, is at the heart any democracy. The Caymanian Times intends growth for this media outlet as we launch our new website which we hope our readers will appreciate, as we continue to strive to improve the way we enlighten our readers on local news that affects the local community.
