Electoral Boundary Commission Meetings

The Electoral Boundary Commission will host a series of community meetings from July 4 to 6 to propose the constituency boundaries and provide insight as to how they are determined. The public is invited to attend and participate in the meetings by sharing their comments on the proposed boundaries.

The Commission advised that of the 19 constituencies, 15 of these are affected by the proposed boundaries due to population growth experienced over the last 8 years. The districts of Bodden Town, and George Town to an extent, have been impacted the most. For countries that have adopted the single member constituencies it is common practice for these to be reviewed periodically in observation of population shifts.

Chairman of the Electoral Boundary Commission, Dr Lisa Handley explained, “The Commissioners have extensively reviewed census population data, toured the constituencies, and have held a series of public hearings to gather views from Caymanians about the process and potential outcomes.”

There is a possibility that a voter’s constituency may change should the proposed electoral map be approved by Parliament. In the event of this taking place, the Elections Office will advise the affected voters.
