Eta resumes Tropical Storm status causing

Severe flooding and Power outages in Grand Cayman

Eta is once again Tropical Storm Eta.

As of the 10 a.m. advisory from the National Hurricane Center, Tropical Storm Eta had 40 mph maximum sustained winds — a bump up of 5 mph from the 7 a.m. advisory when it was a depression — and Eta was headed northeast a bit faster at 17 mph. Eta was about 45 miles west northwest of Grand Cayman. 

Eta is on track to cross Grand Cayman, which is under a tropical storm warning, Saturday afternoon before heading to Cuba, where most of the coast was under tropical storm warnings and watches. The brush with Cuba and some storm-hampering wind shear is expected to keep Eta just under Category 1 hurricane status as it crosses the Florida Keys on Monday.

A Tropical Storm warning remains in effect for the Cayman Islands.

47 Power outages have been reported by Caribbean Utilities with 4,808 customers affected, mainly in Prospect, Spotts and Savannah areas

Overcast skies with torrential rain and intermittent thunderstorms. Showers will locally heavy at times leading to flooding of low-lying areas

Winds are Southerly 25 to 30 knots Gusting to 40 knots this morning veering to the west to northwest 25 to 30 gusting Gusting to 40 knots by evening.

Swells from the east to southeast at 3 to 5 feet are expected. Seas will be rough with wave heights of 5 to 7 feet with higher swells today 7 to 11 feet tonight especially along the east and south coasts.
