Excitement Runs High as Schools Face Off in Netball Finals

The courts buzzed with excitement as students from primary and secondary schools across the Cayman Islands competed in the long-awaited Inter Primary & Secondary Netball Finals. The event, featuring 14 determined teams and over 500 students, marked the thrilling conclusion of weeks of competitive matches, bringing together students, teachers, and supporters to celebrate the very best in youth netball.

From the first whistle, it was all action on the courts. Matches were played simultaneously across four courts, with supporters lining the sidelines, shouting encouragement and waving banners.

The competition delivered plenty of standout moments. Cayman Prep emerged victorious in the Under-9 Championship, while Marie Martin Primary claimed the top spot in the Under-9 Consolation Cup, a testament to their resilience and teamwork. In the Under-11 Championship, Island Primary, in only its second year of competition, clinched an emotional victory over Cayman International, while first-time entrants Footsteps Primary took the trophy in the Under-11 Consolation Cup.

In the secondary school matches, CHHS (Clifton Hunter High School) dominated across multiple categories, securing 1st place in the Under-12, Under-14, and Under-16 divisions, while St. Ignatius Catholic took top honours in the highly competitive Under-18 category.

The finals were a thrilling display of skill, strategy, and teamwork, with players showcasing their passion for the sport. The courts were alive with energy as spectators cheered on their favourite teams, making the day a memorable celebration of Caymanian talent.

Reflecting on the event, Kimberly Kirkconnell, Senior Customer Service Manager, Department of Education Services, said, “This year’s Netball Finals showcased not only the incredible talent of our students but also their determination, teamwork, and passion

for the sport. It’s inspiring to see so many young athletes giving their all on the court and creating unforgettable memories. Congratulations to all the teams for their hard work and dedication!”

The Cayman Islands Netball Association (CINA) partnered with the Department of Education Services to ensure the games ran smoothly, providing officials and funding medals for the winning teams., Ms. Cherry Whittaker and Mr. Orvin Palacio representing The Department of Sports and Mrs. Kerry Jones-Hylton, Primary PE Lead from the Department of Education Services, played a crucial role in organising the leagues and supporting the finals, ensuring every detail was executed flawlessly.

As the day concluded with medal presentations, it was clear this year’s competition had not only raised the bar for school netball but also created lasting memories for everyone involved.
