Family Fun Day at the Botanic Park

Sunday  January 22, was a day of fun at the Queen Elizabeth ll Botanic Park when the Garden Club of Grand Cayman hosted their annual Family Fun Day on January 22nd. Every year families flock to the park to enjoy the events and food and this year was even better with the new Children’s Park up and running. And a lot of children were there, up and running.

A carnival atmosphere enveloped the Park with music playing, face painting, crafts, and games for the younger set; and flower arranging, seed planting and platting silver thatch palms for everyone. More than sixty volunteers helped make the event a success. All funds raised by the Garden Cub go toward the children’s park, in particular the children’s maze, which will be expanded to double its size.

According to the park’s general manager, John Lawrus, over seven hundred people attended bringing in revenue of $10,500 for the park. He had the following to say;

“ It was a tremendous success which can’t always be measured by funds. Without the Garden Club of Grand Cayman this event would not be where it is at. It really is now a permanent event on our calendar and I’m extremely grateful for the support from everyone at the Garden Club, and especially for Jill Wood. This is what the QE ll Botanic Park is all about, and seeing new and old smiling faces enjoying a healthy day out with family and friends is what I am most grateful for!”

Patrick Thompson, Director of the Tourism Attraction Board also commented on the day:

“We are truly grateful to the members of the Garden Club who turn out year after year to ensure this amazing event is a success. The team at the Park are also to be commended for their continued commitment to ensure our national attractions are ready to be showcased to guests from near and far.”
