FFP Cayman Islands National XVs defeat Bermuda National team

In a riveting clash between the FFP Cayman Islands National XVs and the Bermuda National Team on May 4th in Bermuda, rugby enthusiasts witnessed an epic battle of skill and determination. The match began with a burst of energy as Mike Peck secured the first try just 15 minutes into the game, setting the tone for Cayman. Just four minutes later, the Alex Manfield powered through for a second try, extending the lead to 12-0, with a successful conversion by Conal Keane at 19 minutes into the match.

FFP Cayman Islands National XVs continued their dominance with Jeffrey Robinson scoring another try at the 31st minute, followed by Keane’s conversion, bringing the score to 19-0.   Keane added to the score board further by slotting in two penalty kicks, increasing Cayman’s lead to 25-0.

Mike Luxton further bolstered their lead with a try at the 43rd minute, with Keane adding the conversion, making it 32-0.

As the match progressed, substitutions were made, with Ruen replacing Martin, Michel coming in for Shane Westin, and Ronan MacMahon taking over for Hugh McBride at the 55th minute of play. Joey Westin also joined the fray, substituting for Jeff Robinson and Mathew Westin entered for Will Egan at the 67th minute.

The changes injected fresh energy into the FFP Cayman Islands National XVs team, evident as Blake Egleton secured another try at the 69th minute, extending the lead to 37-0. Jordon Southway added to the tally with a try at the 76th minute, followed by a successful conversion by Keane, making it 44-0.

More substitutions followed, with Tommy Kehoe stepping in for Peck and Justin May replacing David Stringer at the 77th minute. Mathew Westin made way at the 79th minute, with Steve Owen joining the forward line, and Luxton shifting to the back. However, amidst the intense action, May received a yellow card for a tip tackle, giving the Bermuda side their first opportunity. They capitalized on the advantage, scoring two tries, but the Cayman Islands maintained their lead, securing a well-deserved victory with a final score of 12 – 44.

The match showcased the resilience and skill of both teams, leaving fans exhilarated by the thrilling display of rugby prowess.

FFP Cayman Islands National XVs next match is the Cayman Big Game X against the Mexico National team at Truman Bodden Stadium on May 31st at 7pm .   

In preperation for the game, the FFP Cayman Islands National XVs will be training against Major League Rugby team the Miami Sharks on May 18th at Cayman Rugby Club at 9am.  Spectators are welcome.  This will be the first time a Major League Rugby team will be visiting Cayman so its an exciting opportunity for Cayman and for rugby.
