FINAL AIR-BRIDGE FLIGHT DEPARTS

The 8th and final British Airways air-bridge flight organised as an emergency transfer due to the COVID-19 crisis left Cayman on Friday.

The Governor’s Office which has been coordinating the flight operations reports that 316 passengers, mainly students along with their families, were on the outbound flight.

According to HE Governor Martyn Roper, “This final flight is the culmination of months of hard work by Team Cayman which has seen over 2,600 people from more than 35 nationalities heading off the island all with a story to tell.”

“Bereavements, illness, medical treatment, study and loss of employment are just some of the reasons people have had to leave and it has been an amazing feat for everyone involved that during a worldwide pandemic we have been able to support them and get them to where they need to be.” he added.

The Governor’s Office which has been coordinating the repatriation fights is handing over that responsibility to the new government agency, TravelTime.

From now on flights to the UK can be booked directly with British Airways.

The first flight under the new system is scheduled to arrive in Grand Cayman on 17th September and depart on the 18th.

Thereafter flights will operate every two weeks until the end of November.

The September 17th flight will also be a test run for the new COVID screening system for visitors arriving in Cayman when the borders are initially re-opened on October 1st.

People returning to Cayman are reminded that they still need to register with www.exploregov.ky/traveltime to obtain permission to return.
