The management and staff of Pedro St. James offers a special thanks to Ken Nutter who donated several plants including 10 coconut trees, two each of papaya and ackee trees and a guinep tree this past week [Wednesday 20th October], all of which will be planted within the grounds of the National Historic Site.
Mr. Nutter is an avid gardener and uses his skill to relax and reduce stress. He recently found himself with “extra” plants and thought a great way to give back is by donating them to the gardens at Pedro.
“The site recently lost trees and decorative shrubbery during Tropical Storm Grace, so the donation is quite timely,” said Tourism Attraction Board (TAB) Director, Patrick Thompson.
Encouraging others to lend a hand, Mr. Nutter said “If you have extra plants bring them out so everyone can enjoy them. What a wonderful place to give back to.”
Mr. Nutter, who is the assistant manager of the Bakery at Hurley’s Marketplace is also planning to donate unused pineapple tops to Pedro St. James, in hopes of creating a pineapple patch on the grounds of the attraction.
“The TAB is keen to build relationships with individuals and local organisations even if in small ways like this, as together we can continue to preserve and maintain our national attractions,” said Mr. Thompson.
