SOL Pumas - Aleigha, Kenia, Jialy

SOL Pumas - DeShae and Tracey

SOL Pumas 6, SOL Panthers 5

CILLA Girls Softball continued on Saturday, February 20th as the SOL Pumas built an early lead then held on in the final inning to edge the SOL Panthers, 6-5.

Pitcher Jialy Archbold-McLaughlin was in command for the SOL Pumas to start the game, holding the normally potent SOL Panthers to zero runs over the first two innings, while striking out two and allowing only one hit. Meanwhile, the SOL Pumas scored a run in the top of the first as Tracey Campbell singled and later scored on an RBI double by Kenia Rostran. DeShae Cann added another run in the second inning, scoring on a single by Lindsay Bodden. In the top of the third Kenia tripled deep to left field and she was able to sprint home when the throw to third got away from the fielder.

The SOL Panthers battled back with two runs in the home half of the third. With two outs and the bases loaded, Demae Lee hit a 2 RBI double, scoring Stephanie Menko and Sofia Watler, giving her team some hope of a comeback. The SOL Pumas immediately responded with two more runs in the top of the fourth. Jeliyah McLean walked and scored on a double by Lindsay. Jialy earned the second walk of the inning, and she too crossed the plate when Aleigha General singled. Angelie Bodden tallied the final run for the SOL Pumas in the top of the sixth, reaching on a single and later scoring on a throwing error.

Even though they trailed 6-2, the SOL Panthers still had a fighting chance in their final at bat. Stephanie led off with a double and Sofia singled. Demae brought both of them home with her third hit of the night, and she scored on a hit by Lili Aleria to make it 6-5. After Natalia Bent walked with two outs to put runners on first and second, Jialy induced a grounder to shortstop from the next batter and a perfect throw to third base ended the nail-biting game.

Jialy was presented with the game ball for her outstanding pitching performance for the SOL Pumas.

Games continue on Wednesday, February 24th as the SOL Panthers take on the SOL Jaguars. On Saturday, February 27th the SOL Jaguars play the SOL Pumas. All games begin at 6:30 pm.
