Government Prepares to Move Forward on Coastal Erosion
The Ministry of Sustainability and Climate Resiliency today brought together key public sector stakeholders today to discuss the coastal erosion currently impacting the southern end of Seven Mile Beach.
Premier Wayne Panton chaired the meeting which was attended by: Minister of Planning, Agriculture, Housing and Infrastructure Hon. Jay Ebanks; Minister of Tourism and Transport Hon. Kenneth Bryan: Parliamentary Secretary Isaac Rankine; chief officers for all relevant ministries and senior staff from the Department of Environment and Department of Planning.
Director of the Department of the Environment Gina Ebanks-Petrie and the Director of Planning Haroon Pandohie both addressed the meeting, outlining historical and current work by their departments to address the issue.
The group will convene again next Monday 16 August 2021 to begin to map out a collaborative approach to developing and implementing short, medium and long term solutions.
It is expected that any approach will focus on sustainable solutions that strive to achieve the “triple bottom line” of environmental, social and economic benefits. Climate resilience will also play a role in any considerations.
