Dr Lee reported another large number of negative test results (373) and 10 positives all from our screening programme. All the outstanding results from the Prison were negative. We continue to see isolated cases popping up. We have some local transmission of Covid-19 but no widespread community transmission, which is good news. Nobody tested as positive has had any symptoms since 27 April, an encouraging indicator. We are successfully hunting down this virus and driving it out of our Islands. However, we can’t let our guard down, the virus is in our community and we must continue practicing social distancing, basic hygiene, staying at home as much as possible and avoiding contact with people outside your household to avoid the spread of the virus. Our strategy does still remain on track and we should be able to move to suppression level 2 at the next review point around 2 June. Thank you to everyone for getting us into this position.
Picture from my visit to the field hospital today. The Emergency field hospital has been a collaborative effort between the National Emergency Operations Centre, HSA, members of the Regiment and PWD. My gratitude goes in particular to Pastor Alson and the congregation at the Family Life Centre, Chambers Gibbs, McAlpine, Simon Griffiths, Dave Shelton and Graeme Jackson. We’re in the fortunate position that the emergency field hospital isn’t currently needed (and hopefully will never be) but taking such proactive steps will ensure that we are ready for any eventuality - be it COVID response or another future emergency that requires additional medical surge capacity.
