Grant Thornton Summer Series Tees Off for Second Season of Golf Tournaments

The Cayman Islands Golf Association (“CIGA”) is delighted to continue the Grant Thornton Summer Series of golf tournaments for a second year with the support of Title Sponsor Grant Thornton.

Starting this June, top local amateur and professional golfers with a handicap of six or lower will compete in four official World Amateur Golf Ranking (“WAGR”) events for official WAGR ranking points and prizes. Held over the summer months in Grand Cayman, the series will take place at both the North Sound Golf Club and The Ritz-Carlton Golf Club.

“Our first Caymanian golf ambassador, Holly McLean, will participate in the series along with other prominent local and international golfers.” says Greg O’Driscoll, Partner and Head of Asset Management and Business Development at Grant Thornton Cayman Islands.

Event 1 in the series will be held on 3-4 June at the North Sound Golf Club, and feature top local players including Andrew Jarvis, Justin Hastings, Aaron Jarvis, and Payten Wight. The first round tees off at approximately 10am on Saturday, 3 June, with rounds two and three on Sunday, 4 June at approximately 9am and 2pm. Spectators are welcome.

“The Event 1 field is very strong,” says Giles Hobday, Tournament Coordinator “and our hope with hosting these events is that top-level amateur golf will continue to develop and strengthen in the Cayman Islands.”

“With a shared commitment to developing golf in the Cayman Islands, CIGA and Grant Thornton anticipate an exciting season,” says Dan Fortune, President of CIGA. “Good luck to all competitors.”
