Healthcare delivery is the ultimate service to humankind. Patients and their healthcare provider develop a bond that, especially in the case of patients, extend to their family and friends.
It places a tremendous burden of responsibility on the doctors, nurses and other healthcare staff. People’s lives are quite literally in their hands.
In the Cayman Islands, the provision of high-quality healthcare delivery has taken another step forward with the opening of Health City’s new Oncology Centre, the first of its kind in the jurisdiction.
This is not only for Cayman critical healthcare but a service available to the Caribbean, the Americas and globally.
That this is now available in Cayman is testament to an investor-friendly environment that places the jurisdiction at the cutting edge of top quality, affordable healthcare.
Equipped with the latest in medical technology, the Centre is the first of its kind in the Cayman Islands and one of the most advanced in the region. It marks the first phase of the 70,000-square-foot modern, state-of-the-art medical facility being built on three acres of land to the south of Camana Bay, at a cost of US$100 million.
This new outstanding healthcare resource for the community is not just for cancer treatment but also provides specialised radiation services.
It means that the people of the Cayman Islands won’t need to travel overseas for advanced care and be away from family members when their love and support are most needed.
It also means that patients from around the Caribbean region, the Americas and further afield can be assured of world-class critical healthcare with recuperation and relaxation in a conducive tropical environment as an aid to recovery.
Health City Clinical Director, Dr Binoy Chattuparambil called the new Radiation Oncology Centre “a symbol of hope, built on a legacy of excellence in medicine which balances compassionate patient care with research, development, and innovation.”
He further said: “The technology which is available means we are now able to provide effective, precise, and less invasive cancer treatments for the people of the Cayman Islands.”
It’s a dream come true for Health City founder Dr Devi Shettty who dedicated the facility to his friend and business ally, Caymanian GeneThompson, recently deceased.
“I have had many dreams, and one was a world-class medical destination in the Caribbean, to give access to the highest quality of medical services, saving countless lives.
Today the Caribbean, Latin America and this side of the world have options they otherwise would not have if not for a special individual. A man who was a main driver, physically building and then figuratively sailing this vision to safe harbour. This man is no other than my good friend, Mr Gene Thompson.”
It’s a heartfelt gesture and speaks to the bond between healthcare providers, their patients, family and friends..and the wider community.
A bond that epitomises Health City Cayman.
