Heavy Showers, Moderate Seas and Winds expected over the next few days

Tropical Depression likely to form

According to the National Weather Service, moderate to fresh winds and moderate seas are expected over the next 24 hours as a tropical wave currently over Hispaniola is expected to move across the western Caribbean.

In addition NOAA has advised that A broad area of low pressure is expected to form over the southwestern Caribbean Sea during the next day or so from a tropical wave currently located over northwestern Colombia and the south-central Caribbean Sea.

Environmental conditions are forecast to be conducive for development, and a tropical depression is likely to form late this week or over the weekend while the system moves west-northwestward to northwestward over the northwestern Caribbean Sea.

The disturbance is expected to move near or across the Yucatan Peninsula of Mexico on Saturday, and move into the western Gulf of Mexico by Sunday where conditions could be favorable for additional development to occur.

For Friday, the forecast indicates cloudy to overcast skies with scattered showers and some thunder. Showers are likely to be locally heavy at times along with flooding of low-lying areas.

The forecast also warns of East to southeast 15 to 20 knots with higher gusts. Seas will be Rough with wave heights of 6 to 8 feet.

 

A marine warning will be in effect

Motorists in the Cayman Islands will be forced to navigate through flooded streets for a few days and boat owners will be encouraged to keep an eye on the seas as the forecast predicts more rain and moderate seas during the next few days.
