Inaugural Cayman Bogue Swim Receives Local and International Support

Local swimmers will traverse the channel from Cayman Brac to Little Cayman on 18th September

Local real estate agency, Williams2, has come forward as the headline sponsor of The Cayman Bogue Swim 2021, an inaugural event where participating swimmers will travel the five-mile stretch from West End Point on Cayman Brac to Point of Sand on Little Cayman. The organisers of The Cayman Bogue Swim wanted to not only have a challenging event for swimmers in the Cayman Islands, but, and perhaps more importantly, have committed to support the Central Caribbean Marine Institute (CCMI) by selecting them as the beneficiary of all funds raised during the swim.

Rawlinson & Hunter and African Impact have also come in as sponsors of the event, boosting the fundraising impact for CCMI. 50% of all donations will be dedicated to scholarships.

“As a group of people that spend hours and hours swimming the sea, CCMI was really the only option! The research they do has use on a global stage beyond just the close waters of the Caribbean. We also love that so much of the focus of CCMI is on education of children through digital channels and the amazing on site programmes at the Little Cayman Research Centre on the shores of Little Cayman,” said Euvrard.

The swim will begin at 8am on Saturday, 18th September 2021. It is not a race; instead, organisers envision it to be a personal challenge for each participant to test their swimming abilities. Approximately 16 local swimmers have spent the summer months training for this inaugural event. In the five weeks before the end, the swimmers estimate they will swim more than 1000 km as a group for their training.
