On Friday, January 19th, the Inter-Primary Basketball season continued with second round matches. The teams were all trying to claim a win and put themselves in position for the championship tournament. From week to week, year over year, there is always improvement by the players, and it is common to witness the teams playing more cohesively. This week was no exception.
Fresh from their victories in week one, the Joanna Clarke Primary boys’ and girls’ teams hosted the squads from East End Primary. These figured to be a pair of hotly contested games. Such was the case indeed.
Up first was the girls’ match. From the start, both teams hustled and scrambled after each loose ball, and worked hard to put their coaches’ plans into action; all the while trying to perform the skills they had been taught in practice. Through three quarters, it was not clear who would come out on top. With each basket made, the tension would increase. Then, about a minute before the final whistle, the home team made a shot that would prove to be the deciding factor. The game ended with the score Joanna Clarke 8, East End 6.
The boys’ game proved to be as competitive and exciting, and the tension no less present. It was almost as if the boys from East End were determined to secure at least one game from the day’s action, and the Joanna Clarke boys had their minds set on keeping their undefeated league record; and they were all prepared to play their hearts out. Lots of back-and-forth action ensued for the full four quarters, but the home team appeared to be the stronger and the final score was not as close as for the girls’ game. Joanna Clarke emerged victorious by a score of 6 to 2 over their East End counterparts.

Girls: Cayman Academy 6 to First Baptist 0; Island Primary 24 to Edna Moyle 2; St. Ignatius 12 to SJACPS 4; Prospect 34 to Prep “B” 18.
Boys: First Baptist 31 to Cayman Academy 0; Edna Moyle 4 to Island Primary 2; St. Ignatius 12 to SJACPS 2; Prospect 16 to Prep “B” 6.
