Action between CIS (white) and Marie Martin Primary’s Under 11 boys.
With Tropical Storm Helene inundating Grand Cayman with massive amounts of rain this past week, worries over playable fields for games on Saturday, September 28 was a major concern for organisers of the CUC Primary Football League (PFL). Fortunately, although slightly soggy, Island Primary was able to host their first CUC PFL games on their new natural grass field with games against the Cayman Prep B boys.
Island Primary’s Under 9A boys were first up against Cayman Prep 9B and following an entertaining but goalless first half, Island Primary’s Jonah Sabbah blasted his side into the lead in the 26th minute. With time running out, Cayman Prep 9Bs Leo Keys’ powerful free kick in the 37th minute brought his team back into the game and the eventual 1-1 draw was a fair result for both.
In the Under 11 encounter, Island Primary’s Luca Pinhall-Smith was the difference between the two sides as he found the back of the net in the 23rd minute to make it 1-0. Countless second-half pressure by Cayman Prep 11B could not produce the all-important equaliser and with the final whistle, Island Primary had notched the first win on their new field.
In other Group A Under 9 games, Cayman International School defeated Marie Martin Primary 3-2 and Sir John A. Cumber Primary drew 2-2 with St. Ignatius Catholic.
